Express Entry

Express Entry is an online system that administers three federal immigration programs. The three federal immigration programs are:

  1. Federal Skilled Workers Program
  2. Federal Skilled Trades program
  3. Canadian Experience Class

The government determines which program you are eligible for, once you have completed the form. It will only take 10-15 minutes of your time. It is essential that you be as specific as possible when filling out the form.Advertisements

Express Entry gives you the opportunity to apply for permanent residence in Canada, by placing your application in a lottery with other eligible applicants. Giveaways can occur as often as two weeks.

Why should you apply through the Express Entry System?

Here are three great reasons to apply via the Express Entry System:

  1. The processing time of your application can take as little as six months, making it one of the fastest immigration systems in Canada.
  2. The Express Entry system will issue 105,500 Invitations to Apply (ITA) this year alone.
  3. If you don’t succeed the first time, your application will remain in the draw pool for a complete year, where you’ll be able to improve your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

How does the Express Entry system work?

You will need to complete and submit your online profile within 90 days. It is always best to complete it as soon as possible because when there is a tie between two candidates, the tie-breaker rule states that the candidate who submitted their profile first will receive the ITA.

What you need to create your online profile

  • Your passport or travel document;
  • Education credential assessment report;
  • Language test results;
  • Certificate of qualification in a trade occupation issued by a Canadian province or territory (if you have one);
  • Proof of work experience (if you have one); and
  • Provincial Nomination (if you have one).

Once you submit your profile, it will be placed in a giveaway group as shown above. Here you will receive a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score which will determine your rank in the group. To qualify you must meet or exceed the CRS cut-off score, the CRS qualifying score for each drawing will vary.

Obtaining the ITA means that you now have the option to apply to become a Canadian permanent resident.

What is the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS)?

The government uses the ComprehensiveRanking System (CRS) to assess and score all profiles in the Express Entry pool, which also determines their ranking.

Your total CRS score is made up of two sections:

  1. Core set – total of 600 points.
  2. Additional set – total of 600 points.

This would make the maximum achievable score of 1,200 points. Your score will be determined by factors such as language, work experience, education, etc. The higher your CRS score, the better your chances of receiving an invitation to apply.

Home Support Worker Pilot

This is a five-year pilot program designed to help skilled foreign workers, with experience in home support work, relocate to Canada and become permanent residents. This also includes your family members. As a home help, your tasks may include helping people with disabilities, the elderly or people in rehabilitation. You would work at the employer’s or client’s home, and you may also have to live there.

The program is open to you if you have the following job titles:

  • Housekeeper;
  • Live-in caregiver – seniors;
  • Personal care attendant – home care;
  • Family caregiver;
  • Attendant for persons with disabilities – home care;
  • Housekeeper;
  • Personal aide – home support;
  • Respite worker – home support;
  • Doula; and
  • Home visitor – infant care.

Who is eligible for the home support worker pilot?

To work in Canada as a home support worker, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

Have a valid job offer

You will need to get a formal job offer from a Canadian employer. It must be a full-time position where you work at least 30 hours per week. Offer may not be for work in the province of Quebec.

Admissible to Canada

A customs broker will determine this when you arrive in Canada. You may be prevented from entering Canada for a variety of reasons, including a criminal record and poor health. If you have a police clearance and a medical exam, the above is less likely to happen.

Language proficiency

You’ll need to show proficiency in either English or French in each of the four language skill areas which are:

  1. reading;
  2. writing
  3. speaking
  4. listening

Make sure your test results come from a designated testing organization, to be considered valid. The results must also be less than two years old at the time of your request.

Complete one year of post-secondary school

Typically, you will need a high school diploma as well as some home care training. The alternative to this would be if you can demonstrate home management experience or training, which will also make you eligible. However, you will then need to complete one year of post-secondary studies in Canada.

First aid certification and CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training

It may not always be necessary, but it is a great certificate, especially in this area. And it can improve your overall application.

If this option works for you, it is best to apply as early as possible as the program costs only 2,750 applications per year. Once the limit is reached, the program closes until next year.

Family Sponsorships

Another great way to immigrate to Canada from Peru is through the Family Classes program. The Family Sponsorship Program allows adult citizens or permanent residents to sponsor a parent or spouse for immigration to Canada.

Who can sponsor me through family sponsorships?

An individual can sponsor their spouse, partner or dependent children if:

  • You’re at least 18 years old
  • You’re a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act
  • You’re able to prove that you’re not receiving social assistance for reasons other than a disability
  • You can provide for the basic needs of any persons you want to sponsor

Sponsors must make a pledge known as a pledge. This is to promise you that they can take care of you financially. The company undertakes to:

  1. provide financial support when your family members become permanent residents; and
  2. repay any provincial social assistance your sponsored family might have received during that period.

Another agreement that needs to be made is the sponsorship agreement, it is a document that says that the sponsor and his family who are being sponsored agree that:

  1. you as a sponsor providing for the basic needs of sponsored family members, and
  2. the person being sponsored will make effort to support themselves and their family members

The length of the business will depend on where the sponsor resides and their relationship to you. In the table below, you will find the period for each type of sponsor.

Length of undertaking for all provinces except Quebec
Person you sponsorLength
Spouse, common-law partner or conjugal partner3 years
Dependent child (biological or adopted) or child to be adopted in Canada under 22 years of age10 year period or until age 25, whichever comes first
Dependent child 22 years of age or older3 years

Advantages of Family Sponsorships

One of the great advantages of immigrating to Canada under the Family Class program is that you will be able to move to Canada as a Canadian permanent resident and do so without a job offer.

These support groups can be found on Facebook or on the InterNations website. You can join these groups if you are planning to relocate to Canada, if you already live in Canada and want to participate in the tours, or if you just want a Peruvian community in Canada.
